- 60 minutes: suitable for many applications
- 180 minutes: Most common requirement for the UK. When the evacuation requires more time, for example in high-rise buildings or care centers

Individual luminaires are individually mounted and connected.
It is also possible to connect luminaires together for in-line mounting, whereby the luminaires are mechanically and electrically connected.
E4 and E7: in-line luminaires are interchangeable, and additional headpieces must be placed at the start and end of the line.
E5 and R3: There are unique luminaires for the ends and the middle of a line.
R7: There are unique luminaires for the beginning, middle and end of the line.
