Refurbishment project

The hospital is shifting up a gear in its journey to make its campuses in Tilburg more sustainable. The ETZ wants to meet the Dutch government's climate targets by 2030. One of the pillars is the refurbishment project 'lighting'.

In the administration building at the TweeSteden site, the fluorescent lighting was changed to LED lighting in a first phase in 2022. In early 2024, this was followed up in the Elisabeth branch, where the lighting on three floors was completely modified. Here, too, the fluorescent lamps gave way to much more energy-efficient LED lighting.

Smart solutions.

In an organisation where care is provided 24/7, it is extremely important to ensure operational performance. ETAP's smart refurbishment solution offers numerous advantages:

• No new housing or cabling is required.
• After removing the fluorescent lamps and reflectors, the U7 LED module, equipped with LED+LENS^TM technology, snaps into the existing luminaire.
• In-house technical staff can carry out the replacement themselves.
• The impact on the working environment is very low: no noise and dust nuisance because drilling into a concrete ceiling structure is not necessary.
• Offices, workplaces and meeting rooms are only unavailable for a very short time. The installation of a module takes about ten minutes. Consequently, everyone can keep their workstations.

In this second phase, 365 luminaires were refurbished with a U7 LED module. The colour temperature is 4000K, the new benchmark for office areas at ETZ.

Waste of energy? No.

Energy efficient? Yes.

Switching from fluorescent (35W) to LED (20W) immediately results in energy savings of over 40%. Installing a motion sensor provides an additional quick win. If the sensor detects no movement in a room, the light is switched off.

By switching, the lighting level again reaches the required 500 lux. Thanks to high light retention of 99% after 50 000 hours of operation, the light level remains compliant with regulations.
