A textbook example of circularity: the Steinerschool in Brussels makes maximum use of materials and furniture from the dismantled WTC towers (https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2020/11/17/circulair-bouwen-bouwafval-wordt-op-nooit-geziene-schaal-hergeb/).

For the recycled lighting, ETAP developed a tailor-made solution that allowed the parents to transform the old luminaires on site into state-of-the-art LED lighting. Our refurbishment concept ensures that only the light source and the optics are replaced, while the further housing is completely reused.

Result:

  • maximum reuse of material
  • minimal impact on natural resources (-61% steel and -80% paint)
  • doubled lighting level
  • 66% efficiency gains
  • but above all... happy pupils!
