55 Princess Street is a prime location for offices in the heart of Manchester. As part of a recent refurbishment, design firm Hoare Lea Lighting was commissioned to provide top-of-the-range lighting.
The building accommodates more than 17,000 m² of office space arranged over seven floors. With its glass and metal façade it is a striking structure in the centre of Manchester.
The complex was given a thorough makeover in 2014 and a new two-storey lobby now provides a stylish introduction to the building. Lighting design plays a prominent role is this context, with mood and accent lighting combining with indirect lighting to create an elegant space. The interior lighting scheme extends to the canopy on the street side, thereby visually linking interior and exterior.
Stunning design
ETAP could not be left out of this prestigious project. Hoare Lea Lighting opted for ETAP's stunning D42 downlight design. LED+LENSTM-technology combines high lighting levels and light comfort. A nearly invisible LED module, integrated in the centre of each luminaire makes additional connections for emergency lighting unnecessary. This lighting solution has certainly contributed to the transformation of the building, according to Jonathan Lawes of Cube Real Estate. 'And we are very pleased with the result.'
