Bosch caters to many markets. Rodez, to the north-east of Toulouse, is the Bosch Group's largest production site in France. The facility is part of the company's Mobility Solutions division, where the focus is on developing new products and services involving hydrogen, aviation and chassis applications.
In the past, ETAP has already installed E5 luminaires with fluorescent lamps in a number of buildings. Based on the positive experience and service, Bosch now went for ETAP again.
Ageing E5 luminaires caused lighting levels to drop to an average of 350 lux, leaving inadequate lighting on the shop floor.
Gains on 3 levels
ETAP was responsible for relighting a section of Bosch's production site in Rodez. This implies that the older E5 luminaires have been replaced by E8 luminaires. To Bosch, this represents gains on three levels:
1) Decrease in number of luminaires
2) Optimisation of installed power
3) Increase in luminous flux
Two E5 luminaires each with four 80W lamps (total of 640W) were replaced by one 261W E8 luminaire. This represents halving the number of luminaires, saving 59% in energy consumption and doubling the luminous flux to an average of 700 lux.
An additional side effect and benefit of the renovation is that the steel roof structure - due to the halving of the number of luminaires - has to bear significantly less weight. Bosch's site in Rodez is located in a region where it snows regularly in winter, making the weight on the roof a major issue.
