Belgian-based The Compost Bag Company has made it its mission to reduce plastic waste. At its Herent site, it produces 100% biodegradable and compostable waste bags as an alternative to non-biodegradable plastic products. In doing so, the Flemish-Brabant-based company aims to minimise its impact on the environment without compromising on quality.
Positive impact
The Compost Bag Company found a like-minded partner in ETAP in order to sustainably revamp the lighting installation in its complex production facility and warehouses. The outdated lighting system provided too low a light level and the growing number of faults significantly increased maintenance costs. Therefore, it was time for a long-term solution. "ETAP's concept, quality and service convinced us. A fine example of Belgian collaboration," according to Nils Kern, production manager at The Compost Bag Company.
ETAP suggested its E5 luminaires with multilens technology. The result is a stable lighting system with a higher, standard-compliant lighting level and directional light distribution in zones. The quality of the lighting also has an impact on working conditions and undoubtedly adds value for employees. Luminosity when performing quality checks, among others, has increased.
The lighting system's energy cost has dropped by no less than 60%. The Compost Bag Company runs and manages the lighting installation with the Excellum central light control system, which is an intelligent system that is easy to manage and ultra energy-efficient. It allows The Compost Bag Company to set its own lighting levels per zone and to monitor and optimise energy consumption.
Security
ETAP is responsible for the lighting's smooth operation for 10 years. With the C-LaaS (Circular Light as a Service) agreement, ETAP provides continuity and security. This slashes the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by 45% and enables The Compost Bag Company to fully focus on its core business.
