The Dutch Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital (ETZ), with facilities in Tilburg and Waalwijk, is one of the top clinical hospitals in the Netherlands. It offers highly specialised medical care, conducts scientific research and is a training hospital for medical specialists and other healthcare providers.
Phased approach: out with fluorescent, in with LED
The ETZ aims to meet Dutch climate targets and halve CO2 emissions in phases by 2030. One of the priorities is making the lighting more energy efficient in all buildings on the various sites. The first step has been taken by updating the lighting in the corridors in the Tilburg-based administration building.
Smooth transition
Such a revamp could have major consequences and lead to a large-scale renovation project. Due to the existing ceiling construction in the building, the full replacement of the luminaires would have implied a complete ceiling renovation.
With ETAP's refurbishment solutions, the impact of the works remains limited. Only the lamps and reflectors on the original ETAP luminaires with fluorescent lamps make way for the U7 LED modules with LED+LENSTM technology. Therefore, no major ceiling work is required.
Less consumption, improved appearance
With this upgrade, the ETZ is taking a first step towards making its lighting more sustainable. Energy consumption drops by 39%, from 36W to 22W per luminaire. In addition, daylight sensors control the intensity of the light depending on available daylight, which results in additional savings in terms of energy consumption. As an added bonus, comfort increases as the U7 diffuses a much more even light.
The colour of the 65 installed LED modules approximates the colour of the ceiling, creating a beautiful, integrated look. What's more, the refurbishment solution provides aesthetic uniformity with the adjacent spaces in the hospital where new U7 luminaires give off comfortable lighting. With a five-year warranty, the ETZ can look forward to 2030 without worries.
