Sport-loving inhabitants of Orvault, a suburb of the city of Nantes, have recently seen the light. After a relighting project by ETAP they now practise sports under efficient, comfortable and energy-efficient LED luminaires.
The lighting in the two municipal sports halls had been a thorn in the side of the Orvault town council for some time. Old sodium luminaires featured on the ceiling with too low a lighting level. In addition, lamps regularly needed to be replaced, which is always annoying at a height of 7 metres.
The municipality sought an energy-efficient, maintenance-friendly and comfortable alternative, which they found in the E7 range, i.e., LED luminaires with high specific luminous flux and with tried and trusted service in sports environments.
No glare
The two sports halls each requested a specific solution. In the Cholière tennis hall it was important for the players not to be blinded (for example when serving). At the same time, the tennis courts required uniform lighting. The solution consists of four lines, each with five luminaires, which are suspended above the courts perimeter. Thanks to a special installation bracket the luminaires ensure that the court is illuminated perfectly uniformly (more than 500 lux on the floor) without hanging over the players heads. In the Bois Raguenet sports hall the 7-metre height was a challenge, but here too the required lighting levels were easily achieved.
Drastic energy savings
By drastically reducing the number of luminaires and installed power, the municipality of Orvault achieves energy savings of respectively 30 and 54 percent (see table). Lamp replacement is no longer necessary thanks to the high maintenance factor (LLMF of no less than 94% after 50,000 burning hours). Hence game, set and match for the municipality of Orvault.
