Tilburg's Koning Willem II College is seeing a sharp rise in student numbers. To optimally prepare young people for their future, the school invested in a new building.
The new school building includes two sports halls.
Koning Willem II College is also a Topsport Talent School and DaMu (Dance and Music) school, in addition to the more regular courses. The College has already produced several top athletes. To train in the best possible conditions, the right lighting is essential. Just like the other spaces in the school building, the lighting in a sports facility requires an appropriate interpretation.
Koning Willem II College had already called on ETAP's know-how and solutions in the past. The completion of the new building was an ideal moment to opt for sustainable and (energy) efficient lighting here as well. In view of the specific rooms and associated lighting challenges, ETAP provided tailor-made lighting calculations for each room. On the basis of this study, we know exactly how many and which luminaires each room needs.
Lighting makes the winning difference
Getting top talent ready to deliver unique performances requires a top-notch framework. An essential part of adapted infrastructure is the hall lighting.
Koning Willem II College has two sports halls in its new building. The challenge - despite high ceilings - is to obtain an evenly lit sports floor with maximum comfort for the athletes. The E7 series is the solution: robust, impact-resistant (IK08) and ball-proof (DIN 18032-3). The LED+LENS™ technology ensures high efficiency and thus conforms to the standards of the NOC*NSF (Netherlands Olympic Committee*Netherlands Sports Federation) association. Which states that the hall lighting is suitable for various sports disciplines.
While the emergency lighting in the school building combines design and performance, the sports halls are equipped with the powerful K2 series. To neutralise the impact of balls on the luminaires, they are fitted with a metal basket around them.
Visual alignment
The dance hall was fitted with U7 luminaires, similar to those provided in the classrooms. It provides a visual alignment and integration with the rest of the school: the same look and feel yet with the ability to adjust the amount of light according to the space and activity.
The use of the D9 range in the school corridors has been extended to the changing rooms in the sports halls. As part of these areas are used as sanitary facilities, IP54 (splash and dust proof) was also selected. With the D9 series, these areas are well lit, which is perceived positively by the maintenance and cleaning teams. So everyone wins.
