In 2025, the municipality of Aalter renovated the lighting in its sports park. Two sports halls, a swimming pool, offices, meeting rooms and a cafeteria switched completely to LED. This choice is in line with the plan to reduce CO₂ emissions by 40% by 2030.
At the same time, the municipality solved a maintenance problem: repairing the old installation was no longer possible because parts were no longer available.
The new lighting is therefore future-proof, more energy-efficient and also offers greater lighting comfort for athletes and visitors.
With Circular Light as a Service (C-LaaS), ETAP will take care of the operation and maintenance of the lighting in the sports park for fifteen years. This gives the council the certainty that the installation will continue to perform well and that their spaces will retain the same lighting for years to come, without increasing energy consumption. This allows the council to focus on its most important tasks with peace of mind.
Each space was fitted with a luminaire that perfectly matches its function and conditions.
With Excellum, the council can easily adjust light levels to suit the sport or activity. ETAP Safety Manager (ESM) monitors all emergency lighting luminaires and reports faults immediately.
The switch saves 48% energy: good for 104,200 kWh per year and 20 tonnes less CO₂. Athletes and visitors enjoy bright, even lighting. The work was carried out without interruption: all activities in the swimming pool and sports halls could continue as normal.
With ETAP, Aalter gained an energy-efficient, reliable and smart installation that will last for years. Would you also like to make your sports hall or building more energy efficient without major works? Please contact ETAP for a non-binding analysis.
